Ascent Federal Credit Union, originally founded in 1957 as Weber College Employees Federal Credit Union, has been through many chapters over its almost 70-year history. From serving faculty, staff, students, and Alumni of Weber State University, to serving the broader communities surrounding WSU, our mission has remained the same – to inspire upward financial success. And now, the credit union has an opportunity to elevate our mission to new heights while remaining true to our history and returning to our roots.
I am excited to announce a new chapter for the Ascent Credit Union. Our Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team have agreed to enter the merger process with Goldenwest Credit Union. Together, we will create one of the strongest credit unions in Utah and Idaho with 55 branches, $3.975 billion in assets, and more than 215,000 members. As a member of Ascent Credit Union, you will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed merger. You will receive more details about the voting process in the coming weeks.
Both organizations were founded in Ogden and remain headquartered in Weber County. We share a solid financial foundation and a deep commitment to serving our members, employees, and the Weber State University community. To honor our heritage, our name will become Weber State Credit Union, a division of Goldenwest.
For Ascent members, this proposed merger brings expanded opportunities and benefits:
• Expanded Branch Access: You will have access to 51 additional branches across Utah and Idaho.
• More Products & Services: A wider portfolio of deposit, lending, insurance, and investment options.
• Greater Support Of Our WSU Heritage: The restoration of the Weber State Credit Union name revitalizes the university brand and loyalty, hailing to our history while building an expanded relationship with the power of resources from Goldenwest.
This is a strategic step to ensure long-term value and added convenience for you and your family. No immediate changes are required—you can continue using your current Ascent Credit Union accounts, Visa cards, and digital services. We will communicate updates well in advance before any transitions take place. Click here for FAQs and the most up-to-date information.
We are grateful for your trust, loyalty and membership! Should you have questions about our intent to merge with Goldenwest Credit Union, please contact me or any member of our leadership team.
Sincerely,
